BIOGRAPHY

Francesco Lento was born in 1986 in Macomer, in the province of Nuoro. He began playing the trumpet with his father at an early age and soon became part of the local music band, where he quickly distinguished himself for his skill and a versatile tone. He is considered the rising star of Italian jazz trumpet.
Career
After graduating in Trumpet at the Sassari Conservatory, he began playing in the Jazz Orchestra of Sardinia under the direction of Giovanni Agostino Frassetto. Through this ensemble, he started to make contacts with various musicians from around the world (Bob Destiny, Bruno Tommaso, Phil Collins, Bob Mintzer, Ken Cervenka, etc.). During this period, he abandoned symphonic studies, which had also earned him a paid position in the Orchestra of the Lyric Theatre, and devoted himself heart and soul to Jazz.
He studied feverishly by day and played at night in clubs with the most diverse formations, beginning to study and transcribe hundreds and hundreds of solos. He was attracted to the structure and the magical sonic blend of Be Bop and Hard Bop. He frequented Cervencka, Bosso, Boltro, but above all embarked on a frantic personal search to broaden his musical horizon and to fully learn the structures.
In 2009, he landed in Rome, the undisputed capital of Italian Jazz and especially fertile ground for contaminations and hybridizations. Here he began playing in various formations (with Paolo Damiani, Roberto Gatto, Gege Munari, Max Jonata, Marco Ferri) without losing the pace in individual study on the instrument and in transcription.
From there, his studies took him to New York, and then around the world, playing from Greece to London (where he trod the stage of the prestigious Ronnie Scott’s) to the United Arab Emirates. Recently, Francesco was mentioned by Paolo Fresu as one of the best talents of contemporary Italian Jazz.
